Interesting Winchester VA Facts

Winchester is home to the Winchester Royals baseball team.

Winchester is the home of the annual Shehandoah Apple Blossom Festival, which has been held since 1924 and draws approximately 250,000 visitors to the area. The festival includes the longest fireman’s parade and the third longest grand feature parade in the U.S.  The festival also includes a carnival, several dances and parties, and a coronation where the Apple Blossom Queen is crowned.

Winchester Virginia

Winchester is a city located in the state of Virginia.  The population was 23,585 in the 2000 census and is considered to be part of the Washington-Baltimore-Northern Virginia area.  Winchester is located in the Shenandoah Valley between the Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains. 

Winchester Virginia was the site of numerous battles during the American Civil War as both contending armies faught to control portions of the Shenandoah Valley.  There are 5 major battle fields located within the city of Winchester which are: Third Battle of Winchester, Second Battle of Kernstown, First Battle of Winchester, First Battle of Kernstown.  Some near by battlefields are: Battle of Berryville, and Battle of Belle Grove.
